According to the revision of the Enforcement Rule of the National Health Insurance Act, all foreigners staying for a long term in Korea are required to have the National Health Insurance. However, enrolled students subject to medical expenses deduction (fees paid) who are temporarily without the National Health Insurance according to their visa type (e.g. F visa holders are automatically insured after six months from entry into the country) must have the Certificate of National Health Insurance issued by visiting the medical expenses deduction office before visiting a hospital, and use only the designated hospitals.
The students above can receive benefits equivalent to those of health insurance when paying treatment cost at the designated hospitals. However, benefits regarding the amount of medical cost to be fully paid by patients are not provided as to the students with National Health Insurance.
