Definition
A leave of absence that is not counted toward the allowable terms for general leave of absence (six semesters)
Type
- Leave of Absence for Childbearing, Childbirth and Childcare: Leave of absence for childbearing, childbirth or caring for children aged 8 or younger (maximum two years)
- Leave of Absence for Military Service: Leave of absence for the duration of military service (limited to mandatory military service period)
- Voluntary extension of military service periods is subject to general leave of absence, not leave of absence for military service
- Leave of Absence for Startup: Leave of absence for the establishment of a “venture business” under the Special Act on the Promotion of Venture Business (limitedly when the applying student is the representative of the business)
Application Procedure
Submit the application form and the required documents to the Academic Affairs Dept. of the respective college
- Upon submission of an application, collect and retain the filing receipt (limited to undergraduate and graduate students who have submitted the application in person)
Required Documents
- Leave of Absence for Childbearing, Childbirth and Childcare: Medical certificate issued by a hospital, certificate of family relations, etc.
- Leave of Absence for Startup: Documents verifying that the applicant is the representative of a venture business pursuant to the Special Act on the Promotion of Venture Business and corporate activities of the venture business
- Leave of Absence for Military Service: Notice of military enlistment/conscription (Muster notice)
- Leave of Absence for Medical Treatment of First Year Students, Transfer Students and Re-admitted Students in the First Semester: Medical certificate for hospitalization with a duration of at least four weeks (issued by the director of an auxiliary hospital or other general hospital) and certificate of hospitalization with a duration of at least four weeks
Note
- First year students, transfer students and re-admitted students cannot take a leave of absence for the first semester after admission unless the absence is due to military service or medical treatment
- Upon submission of an application collect and retain the filing receipt (limited to those who submitted the documents in person)
- Application for leave of absence/return for graduate school students cannot be submitted online
